  1. Question Golf mk4 1.6SE timing belt

    Anyone know offhand how often a timing belt should be changed on a Golk Mk4 S reg 1.6SE ? Its done 92,000 miles....

    I think it should be every 60K miles of 4 years? but don't quote me on that, i'm sure someone will along soon to but it right.

    Yeah its every 60k but i would do it early as they make a mess when they go! ask me how I know sometime.

    make sure you change the tentioners and water pump too while your at it.

    you say every 60k mile or 4 years. mine is golf 1.4 1999 model and its done 25k, when would you recommend mine getting changed, thanks

    er, if its still on the original belt, then i would change it tomorrow morning. even with a mere 25k on the clock, the belt is now 10 years old. they perish/degrade over time, and yours is currently on borrowed time.

    ok???!! your scaring me there, lol. does that mean i have to change the water pump and all the other things that go with it it? what are the signs of the timing belt on its way? thanks
