    Here : A Noise - YouTube

The low frequency noise which rises and falls with speed - apologies for my jeans being the pic.

Tyres are Rainsports all round - 2's on the front and 3's on the rear.

Is it only while driving? If so,jack her up and have a look at the running gear for anything obvious....if no obvious signs or nothing untoward on tyres then maybe early sign of bearing going? Just a hunch....

    Read the 1st review here:

Uniroyal Rainsport 2 | the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 reviewed and rated - TyreReviews

Am thinking a Beemer 330 a little lighter than an A6, but there are other reviews that state 'sounds like a wheel bearing' if you search

Had them on my Jag and thought they were great in the wet, but it's decatted with a sports zaust so any other noises would be lost! :P

@Mark - the 2s went onto the front to replace the Bravarus (I think) widow makers when I got a puncture. Prior to that there was the wuvwuvwuv noise so I assume tyres.

This one was there prior to the R3s going on the back (another puncture and an excuse to get rid of the widowmakers there). Now the tyres are quieter I can hear this noise more.

@Fixer - bearings checked the other week and nothing so far. Will check for maybe a mount going - probably a trans one as it rises / falls with road speed and not engine.

One thought - had the curved arms in the front suspension sorted last week and the noise is louder since then so going to ask the place that did it to check if the alignment is OK or anything else that might be causing it.

One the positive side doing the arms also made the car far more "chuckable" which also made me realise just how useless the widowmakers on the rear were (Drift an A6 anyone ?) which meant that when one of the widowmakers on the rear got a puncture I was happy engage man-maths and spring for 2 decent tyres so I can chuck it a lot more - and more safely...

BTW just had a chat with a friend with a new (2010) Ford Focus and he ended up paying £400 for 2 tyres (16in wheels) My 2 new Rainsports cost me £250 from Camskill including delivery.

    ^^^^Doh! Now he says!

Did you not have a full alignment done afterwards?

As regards to your Ford owning friend, clearly he needs to apply more....erm...focus(?) when buying new rubber as I'd be hard pushed to find 16" rubber for that overly inflated (you like?) price.

I need to check the invoice as I'm sure alignment would be part of the process - it is a VAG "Specialist" after all...

Not many specialists I know can afford the alignment equipment.
