    Hello All

I have an A3 1.9TDI Sport (2007) and for the past 6 months i've been listening to a rather peculiar squeaking sound from the passenger side of the vehicle. I only hear it with the windows down, radio off and when either crawling up a slight incline using the clutch or in 1st/2nd gear or when turning to the right. Its has regular frequency and more often than not it occurs when the engine is warm. The best description of the squeak would be that it sounds as if I have a couple of mice or newly hatched chicks chasing each other around in the wheel.
    "Squeak squeak squeak squeak"...

As you could imagine its really embarassing when crawling past a bus stop when in slow moving traffic

I've done about 81k in this thing now and I was really hoping that it would get sorted with the service as i'd assumed it was the timing belt. Had the Cam belt kit, new front discs and pads but the sound is still there. My mechanic couldn't replicate the noise on two separate occassions so I went with him on the last visit and let him drive it up a slight hill behind his garage and he heard it. He thought that it was the brakes as the noise disappeared when braking slightly. Anyway he checked the belt and changed the pads again but the squeak is still there. It sounds like is coming from the front wheel but its difficult to pin it down when driving so i'm now thinking it could be a problem with the rear.

I've tried researching the problem and I reckon it's maybe something to do with the flywheel . If it was a wheel bearing surely he'd recognise the sound. I'd really appreciate any ideas you guys might have for checking. I'm thinking of taking the car elsewhere (second opinion) but I dont want to have my pants pulled down with unnecessary jobs. Thanks for reading.

Took the car elsewhere for a second opinion. Once again the mechanic couldn't replicate he sound but he agreed to have a look. Took the rear wheels off, cleaned everything up, chamfered the brakes, usual grease in the right places (behind pads etc).
It's been a couple of months since its been there and I haven't heard a peep since. So it would appear that the rear calipers were sticking. Not that anyone on here seemed to care but you never know, someone else might have the same problem at some point.
