    Hi All,

    I am buying a used audi a6 3.0 tdi quattro SE this week.

    Wanted to know what things to check before I do and what should I be looking out for?

    I have done some research and found issues with Intake manifolds after 125k miles. The one I am buying has done 73k and cambelt changed at 60k.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Have a look through this section as it's been done before, some useful threads regarding new ownership.

    The 3.0 doesn't have a cambelt so not sure why the seller is saying that. Intake manifold runners can happen at any mileage and require a small and inexpensive repair kit from Audi if the fault is logged.

    It doesn't have a cam belt, didn't know that. So what runs it then, I mean any other thing to look for. I will be looking at other threads as well as you suggested.

    At 73k is hasn't done many miles. Mine is at 110k and still runs lovely. If you have a look at the threads by Gupster you will find some of the problems and also a fix for the swirl flaps. Problems include injectors and chain tensioners but I have had none of that. They do recommend to change the tiptronic gearbox oil at about 100k although Audi seem to think it is good for life.

    so, do the chains need replacing after certain number of miles?

    Check for a chain rattle on cold start up.
    As posted above check threads by gupsterg, he has had the chain and tensioner replaced.

    right, so I can ask for chain tensioners and injectors if they have had any issues or been replaced. I have checked online and they say to check the oil dip and check for if its milky. I am confused about the smoke check. what color should it be. I have read that blue smoke is bad as it can be the pistons???

    It didn't have its cambelt changed
    NOW GONE 2007 A6 2.7TDi Avant Le Mans Edition (180)

    Mods:- ECU Remap, Rear Air Suspension, Rear Led Lights, Rear View Camera, Rear Privacy Glass, Titanium wheels, Colour Coded Fog Light Surrounds, FBMFSW, AMI, DAB, Chrome S6 pedals, Front Grille De-chrome, window surround de-chrome.

    Hi fkansari707,

    Like stated by fellow members the V6 TDi has no cam belt. The VAG engine is so good to make you feel in love with it instantly on every drive in relation to performance and other aspects but be warned when they go wrong it will be £££, so be prepared to keep some extra £££ for a rainy day of ownership.     Only my opinion if I was buying a V6 TDi again I would go for a production dated car of 2007 onwards. Check my profile for started threads if you wanna scare yourself!
