Hi everyone, I have a golf 4 1.6 SR 8v SOHC (AKL engine) and have been sorting out through some small running issues. I have just replaced the crankshaft sensor in order to sort out a slight variation of engine speed at idle and a somewhat lazy startup. The starter spins the motor and it fires up within one or two turns but the engine speed does not jump up to the correct idling speed (specially on cold) and seems to kind of jump higher and higher to the more or less correct speed (although I think that the idling speed on cold is somewhat low to start with - it will increase after I touch the throttle and then it will stay "normally" high or sometimes even a little too high...)
Anyway, my question at the moment is that when I removed the old crankshaft sensor, it was covered in oil... Now I am not sure I am right, but this sensor picks up on the flywheel's tooth and that should be a dry area, no? I would assume that there is an oil leak on the crankshaft seal behind the flywheel but I have so signs of clutch slipping, which I would expect if that was the case. Can someone clarify whether there is something else that could "oil" this sensor? Otherwise I assume this will be a very small leak that is spraying around the bell-housing and not enough to affect the clutch (yet...).
Thanks in advance for any comments/thoughts.
