    Hi All,

Got in the car this morning turned the key but the car did not start.

The key goes into the ignition barrel no problem but when I go to turn it does not feel like its biting. It just turns in the barrel about a 3rd of the way around.

    Any idea on this?

    Mathew

You need a new barrel. The wafer pin is quite quite broken.

You will have to get a new one from VW. Taking it out just needs the couling removing and from memory there is a retaining clip that allows the barrel to come out.

Do you think its the barrel or the ignition switch at the end of the barrel?

    This looks interesting

OK Just spoke with TPS and they want £110.13 + VAT just for a new barrel.

Is there a more cost affective way of doing this?

Will I be able to use my old keys in the car I dont want a diffrent key for the ignition

Ok I can get a Barrel from a Brakers for about £30. So I will try that and see what happens.

Does anyone have instructions or a video on how to remove the existing barrel?

    Hi All,

Ok got the wheel off and have been able to remove the ignition switch on doing so the part that had broken off fell out!!!

    So its a new barrel

    I have one problem!

To remove the barrel you need to undo two screws that release it from the steering assembly. However they are just round no particular size or shape how the hell do I remove them??

    I have attached some pictures

    Please help
