I have had this fitted a year ago (by oemretrofits) to my b6 2006 turbo diesel passat and it works well.

They told me though that they selected a particular older firmware for it for my car and that I cant upgrade the firmware without also fitting in a power regulator which will cost me >£100 for that. I am sure they know what they are talking about, but anyone know why that is. Also is there great benefit in upgrading the firmware if I expense this. thank you

What is your firmware revision now?

Ask them what they mean about a "power regulator". Find out whether it's a static or active device. If active, what unit do they fit? If static ask them the value of the component used?

The only item that could benefit a headunit that I know of (unless it's a component added to the RNS510 itself) is a large value capacitor to the 12V supply rail

Why bother, a 2006 B6 is worth £2000, don't waste your money on a lemon car.
