I noticed recently that the little dashboard thumb wheel (next to the instrument illumination level control) in my 2001 sharan only changes the range/level of one headlight (nearside). I can't decide if this is normal or not.

Does anybody know if both headlights should change? - or is it set up so that only one light ever changes?

I guess I could remove the non-moving headlight to see a motor is actually fitted - but it seemed better to ask here first.

Thanks for any help you can give.

    SD.

Both lamps should move as far as i'm aware....

Sounds like a dodgy motor, but check the wiring first, (Maybe use the motor from the other side ) and then if that motor works on both, you just need a new motor.

In the end I bought a new motor from the local VW garage and fitted it myself. Seemed to cure the problem although I did notice there was quite a lot of "chatter" in the movement whenever the motor was used.

Was just messing with it today and noticed the motor is working fine,....if you give it a little tap. I could do with just stripping it and having a look.
How do you get the headlight out once past the 4 bolts holding it in. Does the bumper need to come off? I ran out of time today so fired it all back together.

    Cheers for the info

New motor fitted, Bumper in place, did not need to be removed.
    Headlights both work fine.
