(New) VW Service Plans For New Cars

Hi Guys,

I'm due to take delivery of my Golf GTD at the end of March :-). Is there any new service plans coming out?

I seem to remember there was a 3yr/30,000 plan for £349 from the dealer. Has this ended?

Due to not having the car yet, I can’t take out a plan. I will be covering around 20k per year, and had planned to take the above plan out, then switch to long-life servicing thereafter.

Help & advise please?

The service plan is 3 years or 30,000 miles so not sure how much usage you'd get from it. Also I am 99% certain it has to be bought at the same time as the car so if you want it you'd need to speak to your dealer asap. I purchased this at the same time as ordering the car.

I remember there was a thread about this a while ago, and that was the cheapest option for VW servicing. Also car has to be less than 90 days old to qualify for this special price.

As mentioned above, I was simply going to use this then follow up with long-life services.

I have just seen this thread linked to new post I have made in Passat sec. I see that you can have a service plan for your car for any length of time up to 5 years but they seem expensive to me. They are individually tailored to you and your car. It does NOT inc cambelt replacement So mine was over £1000 with 9.6% discount for 3 services inc MOTs and 2 brake fluid changes and air con services. I am sur that this is about £100-£150 over the top.

Please can you explain more, I thought it was every 10k?.

What servie plan if any do you have?.I will be covering 20k per year.

Also, is the car set to long life from new?

If you covering 20k miles per year then you could opt for longlife servicing, but some wouldn’t recommend it. VW prefer you to have your car serviced at least once a year, regardless of mileage. If you do less than 10k miles per year then this would mean going on the fixed time/distance interval of 10k miles/12 months (whichever comes soonest), or in your circumstances you could go longlife which is variable, depending on mileage – most will see 18k miles between services on that method.

VW supply the cars set up for longlife servicing, and they’ll have the longlife oil in them from the factory. Unless you tell them not to, most dealerships will set the service interval back to fixed time/distance and have you in every 10k miles. If you buy the service pack you are opting for the fixed time/distance servicing, the pack provides 3 services which include 3 x oil changes, 1 x air/pollen filter change (year 2), 1 x brake fluid change (year 3) and the usual inspection checks at each service. If you go variable/longlife, then you will be buying your services on an individual basis.

Any ideas if I went to 18k yr 1, 36k yr 2, 54k yr 3. What price those services would cost?

I really want the cheapest VW servicing for the 3yrs.

Would you suggest I tell the dealer to leave it on longlife, 18k?

I think you will be in a "six and two threes" situation. For 3 x annual/10k miles services, you will not get cheaper than buying the service pack. Over 3 years at fixed interval service you will have air/pollen filters, brake fluid to replace and 5 oil changes/inspections.

I'd estimate your 5 x 10k miles services at £380 for the pack and around another £160 each for your other 2 services = £600.

If you're going longlife then you're probably looking at about £200 per service + maybe £60 for your brake fluid change = £660.

Even if they were the same price total over 5 years, I'd go with the 10k miles interval - it will do no harm at all to get your car inspected almost twice as often and have oil changes at 10k miles. I'd actively prefer it that way.

To be sure what the price difference is, your preferred dealer should be able to tell you the cost differences between buying the pack and an additional 2 x 10k services vs 3 x long-life services and all the additional stuff you may need beyond the oil change, like brake fluid/filters etc.
