I'm looking at buying a new A5, but open to an A4 if there are better deals out there. More importantly it has to be the 3l 245bhp Quattro black edition. If getting an A5 would have to be the coupe and only interested in the saloon A4.

Has anyone had any experience recently on how the discounts dealers are offering at present and which of the A4 or A5 I'm likely to get a better deal for?

Get the A5. Wife has one. There are A4s everywhere and the A5 looks awesome. Spec one up on Drive the deal, my wife's would have come in at about 38k not the 49 she paid if we had known about it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I bought myself an A5 coupe 3l tdi s tronic black edition at the weekend. Couldn't stand to wait so went for a stock model in Ibis white that I should pick up next week. The only must I had was the tech pack so have a couple of other options I wasn't bothered about. As far as the tech pack goes, does this include the parking sensors as there was a bit of confusion as to whether that's a further upgrade or not. Anyone know?

Yes, it does - front and rear.

There is also a tech pack version which has the parking/lane assist feature and I can't recall how it is differentiated now. Might be called 'advanced'?
