    Hi Guys,

Looking for some information if anyone else has had this problem? Just this morning I was sat in the car park waiting to pick my girlfriend up from the Gym, whilst having both the Auto-Hold function and the Parking Break on, I turned the on ignition and I had a warning message come up on the dash "Fault-Electronic parking brake", somewhat to my surprise! I'm now slightly worried as I also have a slight grinding noise (breaks?) coming from the front left wheel.

I popped into the dealer on the way back home and had a chat, no one is in to take a look today so will have to drop the car of first this in the morning at VW.

Have seen that, too, but only when the missus starts the car! Although it's petrol, she does insist on starting it like it's diesel so turns key, fastens seatbelt, then engages the starter motor. It's in this period that the message has appeared. It's probably happened 2 or 3 times in a year of ownership but have never heard, nor felt, any indication that there's anything wrong.

The Electronic Parking Brake operates on the rear calipers so the slight noise from the front left of the car maybe something else.

Ahh of course. If that's the case then it may just have been an unrelated error on the main dash, first time I have seen it so I was a bit concerned by it though it is the first time I have used the "Auto Hold" in a while as I don't like it all that much. I wonder if changing the auto hold can cause this error?

As for the front wheel, at slow speed you can hear what sounds to like the pad catching on the disk... my girlfriend has mentioned a hot smell coming from the passenger side of the car when on a trip back from her friends house the other day, I just figured it was the hunk of junk up in front of me. Though I also can hear it when doing tight turns i.e. around a multi-story car park.

I used to have a B6 Passat that had auto hold, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Auto hold uses the ABS on the front brakes...

Autohold does use the ABS/ ESP hydraulic unit to maintain or increase brake pressure as necessary but EPB uses two geared electric motors on the rear calipers only.

I took the car in for a service in any case. They took a look at it and did a software update that resolves a parking break fault, which they confirmed was happening. So far so good.
