I am now the proud owner of a 9 month old A6 3.0 BiTDi Avant, having upgraded from my trusty "standard" 2010 A6 3.0 TDi last week. Superb car, am still driving around with the obligatory big grin.

Was slightly surprised to learn today that my insurance company requires me to fit a tracker and has given me a 14 day window to do this. Shame it wasn't mentioned when I checked the insurance quote, (not that it would have stopped me going ahead anyway!).

Does anyone have any experiences of post fitting a tracker or can recommend an installer, ideally in the Essex or East Anglia area? Naturally it has to be insurance approved and ideally I'll go for one with a "duration of ownership" subscription as I feel this car is a keeper!

    Any thoughts welcomed.

    Many thanks
    John

Considering the cost of a tracker, would it be an option to switch insurance? Earlier this year I switched before renewal, and actually came out on top. Because your insurance company can't insure as is, they may not charge a penalty to leave. I used Chris Knot one of the forum sponsors.

I appreciate the suggestion Razor 77. In fact I have bitten the bullet today and am getting a tracker installed with a "lifetime" subscription rather than the annual fee nonsense. Switching insurance wasn't really an option as I have a multicar policy with Her Indoors and my weekend toy as well. As this car is a keeper I feel, then it's probably money well spent. I think! 5 days into ownership it is a very different car to the 2010 3.0 TDi it replaces. Much more sophisticated (with lane assist, adaptive cruise control, etc) and it just feels a bigger and more modern car. Outstandingly quick when needed. Not entirely convinced about the low frequency rumble on 20" wheels - they look wonderful but the jury's out on the road noise. Ride is better than the MY 2010 C6 on 18" wheels though. Apologies for the rambling but the contrast is fresh in my mind.....

Well enjoy, they certainly are good all rounder cars, and surreal how they collect and disguise their speed.

Why would it make any difference? Air is 80% nitrogen.

78% to be exact Nitrogen is much denser than 02 so the molecules move slower which can result in some cases with a quieter drive. But the main benefits is a more constant tyre pressure as o2 has smaller molecules and has moisture in it.

Euopean garages fill tyres with Nitrogen as standard and have been doing this for many years.

What tracking company did you go for in the end?

I used trackerfit.co.uk and went for the Smartrack Protector Pro. Was fitted very professionally and promptly by a local subcontractor. I went for the life of ownership option on the subscription. Just hope I never have need to use it.....
