After bypassing egr valve, because of carbon problems ,check engine stays on and I'll clear it but keeps coming back any way to clear it permanently.

ecu detects egr inoperative so puts light on. either fit new egr valve, get egr mapped out of ecu or sometimes a 4mm hole in the blanking plate works, but this defeats the objective of removing the egr. best to fit a new one really, thats probably cheaper than mapping it out.

Thanks for reply Zollaf, you seem to know a lot more about computer aspects of cars. I have no idea what you mean.

someone with a computer that can download a new map onto your cars computer that eliminates the egr valve. basically your cars ecu knows the egr has been blanked off so will always put the light on. they don't normally tell you this when you buy the blanking kit.

Thanks Zollaf, that's more than I can do, I'm pretty new at computers, I assume you need special software for that.

yes, your ecu is programmed by vw. remapping is where someone writes new map and downloads it onto your ecu. you can make the car faster and more fuel efficient by doing this, and also get rid of the egr valve. look at some of the site sponsors that do remapping and speak to one of them. it is indeed very specialised and not cheap. like i say, probably cheaper to get a new egr valve.
