A solid flywheel will stop the slip but you will have more judder, because the DMF has collapsed its acting as a solid flywheel would.
I recently did my wife's car, all the bits ( DMF, driven plate, pressure plate, release bearing) cost £320 from ECP, not an easy DIY but do'able (get a good jack, see my post re this)
If I were too frit to do it myself I would ask for quotes for all the job or the work only (with you supplying the bits) but not at the same garage/time they do tend to want to markup the spare prices, "well VW charge this but we can get it for"

    Hi
Thanks for the advice I have been quoted £580 supply and fit all the parts with a dual mass, I did say I would supply parts myself but was told this would void any warranty, any idea how many hours labor it would take a good garage, I do most repairs myself but have never done a clutch before, thanks

Ask for the details of the parts they will fit, if you get a warranty it will only be 12 months at the most, the OEM has lasted 8/9 years, the parts I fitted from ECP were the exact replacements for what I took off (Sachs), ask them for a price with you supplying the parts, then you know they will last, they have to warranty the work they do by law, so if sound parts are used and it fails they will be liable. Price sounds good, if not a little cheap, look for recommendations first.

Guys i have seen ECP price of £300 for DMF AND £200 for clutch so assumed would need both at £500 then +labour £280ish.
Are you saying the DMF pack at £300 is all I would need?
Same model AWX with 213K-not slipping -pedal just getting a bit nearer now so wont be long!!

    No.
You will need the lot. DMF and a complete clutch including a new release bearing. LUK is the best make.
I done mine (also an AWX) about 6 months ago.
Its also worth buying new flywheel to crank bolts whilst your at it.
Do you know anyone who works in the trade as they could get you a good discount at a motor factors?
I got all the above for less than £300 all in. ECP were pretty bloody dear IMO.
