MOT time is coming up soon, and i really need to fix this issue.
when i bought the car the seat didn't latch, but the pin that screws in the chassis was missing. thats fine, thought replace that and its all good.
the other seat latches, but the handle is broken. it can be undone by sticking a finger into the seat and pulling on a bit of the mechanism.

found the pin rattling about under the rear seat cushions and put it in the right place, still doesn't latch. need to either replace the seat mechanism (and can't find one for sale anywhere, but i'm not really sure what to search for) OR find a way to get the existing mechanism to latch, not really caring if it won't come undone again, but secretly hoping it will.

is there likely to be something jammed inside stopping it from latching properly? do they break and need to be swapped? adjustment wrong? i can't think of anything inside them that can really stop working.

    hopefully someone has some ideas?

Why not search ebay for someone breaking a car for spares? Even if the seat isn't a perfect match colour/material wise, it would get you out of trouble. Are we talking front or rear seat here? Saloon or Avant?

OOps Sorry I just read the title of your thread... My bad

The advice still holds though. There are some people breaking A4 Avants for spares over on ebay. As stated before it might be the quickest way to get yourself a nice new MOT ticket!

i've been having a look through ebay, not 100% sure what the actual part is called though.
as for the seats i've only been able to find 2 listed, 1 whole rear interior for 135, or the wrong side seat for 50. not tried emailing some people breaking one yet, but just wondered if there was a way to make sure it latched. if maybe something was just jammed inside. that'd do me for now!

im pretty sure theres 2 different styles of latches for the rear seats as well.
I think its a facelift pre facelift thing again.
make sure you get the right one.

Cheers for the messages, yes the handle is broken, took it apart, and the bit of plastic that broke off jammed the mechanism, broke plastic removed, it now latches when slammed hard.
You have to get a finger deep in the back of the seat to hook a tiny bit of metal up to release, but it works the same as the other side does... should be alright for mot, and 2 tie wraps make a new release tab

Well done, good to know that you got it sorted, even better that it was a cost free fix. Now let's hope the motor flies through it's MOT without any major issues.
