Hi,

I have a VW Polo 2003 1.4 FSI petrol at approx. 120K

Yesterday the engine warning light came on and I checked the faults today.

P0118 COOLANT TEMP SENSOR G62 SIGNAL TOO HIGH INTERMITTENT
P1403 EGR SYSTEM LIMIT VALVE DIFFERENT

I cleared the faults, the light went off although the temp fault is still present and the erg valve is still whirring (see below). Driven the car around, no engine light back on as of yet.

There appears to be two, two pin temp sensors. One in the bottom of the rad and one on the side of the engine near the erg valve. Since I have owned the car, 2012, the rad fan has intermittently run even when the engine is stone cold, so am I correct the rad sensor is the sensor to be looking at first? The temp gauge within the car has always worked correctly.

Had a look around the erg valve. All the pipe works looks ok, although I noticed even though the fault was cleared, that with the ignition on but engine off, the erg valve solenoid is constantly working (whirring). Would taking the erg valve off and cleaning it out, help anything or has it gone wrong electronically / internally?

Thanks Dave
