Newbie here ... Long term member over on BMW5 and looking to move over to the other side.....

So.. Can I order an A6 S-Line with SE suspension. I see an option to tick S-line so does that mean they coming std with the softer settings as std?

Love the look of the sport kit but post have a 535d M sport im looking for both my cake and the ability to eat it.

I would have asked my dealer but Glasgow Audi are horrific to deal with...

S-Line suspension is a no cost option but you have to have the Sports suspension which is 20mm lower than standard iirc. S-Line adds another 10mm drop.

Get one on loan for a couple of days (your local dealer should allow this if booked in advance) and get a feel of the car and make your mind up from there.

    Welcome to VWAF.

Chris, cheers for the reply, i have test driven an s-line, granted a saloon and i want an avant but no chance of a demo. I asked and was put down.

So.. S-line has sports suspension, no way to option SE and if i furthed ticket S-line it gets a further drop?

Ah, Belfast allow for 1-5 day demos if you ask but they mustn't be all the same.

As standard, an S-Line has Sports Suspension which is a 20mm drop over the SE, you then have the option to lower another 10mm by ticking the S-Line suspension box.

I suppose it couldn't hurt if you asked Audi Glasgow but more than likely it would be a factory order and charge you accordingly. Thats if they even agree or say its possible.

I would expect you will find the standard S-Line spec (i.e. with Sport Suspension) much more bearable than your BMW if only because it does not have run-flat tyres and thus lacks the incredibly stiff tyre sidewalls that RF dictates. If you were (and it's a big IF) abel to get an S-Line with SE suspension I would anticipate that you would get seriously punished come trade in as sea;era do not like anything that is not "standard" with identifiable and approved options. That being said it would not harm to ask. My own experience however when I asked about an S-Line with the light colour headlining from the SE rather than Black they fit as standard to the S-Line (I think the all black interior in the S-Lines makes them seem very claustrophobic) was that it was not possible although there was no real explanation as to why not.

I came from an M Sport on 18" alloys with run flats to Black Edition on 20" wheels so was a little worried like you.

    My concerns were unfounded.

It has standard sports suspension rather than the additional S Line, and it is much, much better than the Beemer. And I'm a big Beemer fan. Had them for 10 of last 13 years.

    It's all subjective of course.

My previous car was an F11 535D SE on 18" wheels. I thought the ride was awful, probably due, in the main, to the run flat tyres.

I drove around in an A6 S line for a couple of weeks with 19” wheels and the ‘standard’, as opposed to lowered S line, suspension. I thought the ride was OK, certainly much better than my BMW which crashed from bump to pothole, and it cornered in a fairly flat and stable manner. I think I could have lived with it.

However, I bought an A6 Allroad which has air suspension as standard. This has three modes; comfort, automatic and dynamic. Comfort is quite soft, not overly ‘floaty’ and is good for low speed town and gently motorway cruising. Dynamic mode firms it up quite a lot, probably about the same as the S line I drove, and delivers flat and composed cornering. Automatic is, unsurprisingly, some where between the other two settings.

Air suspension is available as an option on all A6 models, although on a non Allroad the calibration of the settings might be a bit different.

What one man might consider a pleasingly firm ride might be completely unacceptable to someone else. Try to get test drive as many cars with different set ups as you can.

Gents, thanks for the posts. It a personal lease im doing. I get bored quickly with cars. So resale is a mute point but i agree with your sentiment.

In the E61 I ended up removing the RFTs and installing Ride on tyre sealant instead

2nd question if i may... Leather seats, do i go for the std leather or the no cost option half and half leather / Alcantara. I find std leather warm and hope the other option may be cooler.? Am i wrong?

The Valcona leather is brilliant, best I've ever had in car. Don't think it'll make much difference in hot weather but it's a bit cold in cold weather, well, until the heated seats warm up. Heated seats are a must if you're sensitive to cold in the nether regions.

On the suspension, I wish I had gone for the s line suspension, I sometimes feel that the standard sports suspension is a tad soft, especially around roundabouts. Still it's not too bad.
