hi folks I have a 98 a6 2.4 v6 petrol and it had been running really lumpy and the revs where up and down like mad and when I put the clutch in to come to a stop the car would just die. a friend did a diagnostic with a snap on and it brought up various fault codes...we came to the conclusion the throttle body was sticking so we took it out and cleaned it..once we did this the reving and bad ildlng stopped...car still run a bit lumpy tho...juddered kinda like a diesel...so had another friend run a thorough diagnostic with snap on solar pro and brought up the same fault codes so we decided to change the throttle position sensor as it brought this up as an intermittent fault...now that I have done that the car is running like crap..goes a bit wonky between 1000 and 2000rpms and has burst acceleration after pushing on the peddle for a second or two. did another diagnostic on it yesterday and it brought up fault code p154545 throttle body position malfunction(im 99 percent that was the fault code...my 3 year old ripped the bit of paper it was on into shreds) so my question is...does the throttle position sensor need reset with a proper vagcom tool, iv tried the relearn system of takin off the battery etc and its still not running right or am I gonna have to shell out £450 for a new throttlebody any help on this would be greatly appreciated as iv read through a few forums and theres a lot of different views and a lot of the cars were different types of audis

    cheers for any replies

    Throttle body may need adaptation/alignment.

    Have a read here:

    Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Throttle Body Alignment

Note there are different procedures for Cable Throttle and Drive by wire (DBW)

If you haven't got VCDS then you could try the following:

Disconnect battery for at least 10min,
    Reconnect battery,
Insert Key into ignition and turn on so all warning lights are on (Do not start or touch any pedals),
Leave for about 45 seconds with ignition on,
    Throttle body should realign itself,
Turn off ignition and remove key,
Wait a minute or two and then try a restart.

    Hope this helps.

Also the code you state don't make sense!

    Are you sure t wasn't "P1545"

Have a look at the following page:

thanks for the reply vdubgolf...majority of people online with similar issues have been saying the same thing...theres been a lot of controversy over the relearn process and the vag com process...iv tried the relearn process before and it stopped the erratic revving but still rumbled a diesel..now iv changed the tps its all over the place..plus it wouldn't start for me this morning when takin my daughter to school...but a strange thing is that the judder has almost stopped once the car has been up an running...so somethings goin I just need to find out what..il try the relearn process again today check all connectors and leads as a lot of connectors got cleaned with damp start incase there was any moisture in them

yeah anno about the code sorry but I had it wrote down and my son ripped it to pieces...im 100% certain the end of the code was 4545 and the snap on said throttle positon malfunction...this was the only code that came back after clearing all codes and running a full diagnostic a couple of days ago...I rang an audi specialist when we did it and he said that the code an stuff meant there was something more serious going on(like it needed a new throttle body) I was hoping that wasn't the case as its gonna be costly but if the relearn process doesn't work over the weekend im gonna take it to the specialist to get it hooked up on his vag com to see what he says...im kinda expectin the worst case scenario when I go and im sure the specialist will try to squeeze a lot of money out of me but il see what I can do over the weekend to get it running any better

thanks for the info mate cheers
