Anybody have any idea how much it is roughly for the round 'bush' for the gear selector? (1.6 AEE manual box).

I had a look in my car as I had a bit of north south play in the gearstick (finally got around to checking it), to check the bushes for wear. Since a long while ago I had some issues selecting gears, but that dissapeared. I am now left with an approximate 1" north/south play when a gear is engaged.

Had a look under the bonnet just now as I thought maybe it was some of the smaller bushes worn, but I found this is completely missing!! So its obviously worn out and fallen off - and was probably falling off when my gear selection was giving me jip a couple of years ago.

It doesnt fall out of gear, but now I have everything running properly and repaired more or less, I can get back to what intended to do last year which was replace the little worn out parts like window switches/regulators.

So anybody know if this part is an arm and a leg from VW? I dont expect them to have these ready to hand.. I've lived with the play for nearly two years so I think I can manage another few weeks.

I should take a picture of it really, I nearly burst out laughing when I finally realised what it was.

I've attached an etka picture, is this what is called the 'deviating shaft'? It looks like a 2" round bush from the picture.. I just dont want to go to VW with the wrong part number etc..

Cheers in advance chaps.

Sometimes I think by the time I have finished with this golf, I would have rebuilt the whole car from spare parts
