Hi there , First Happy New Year

sorry seen some post about the Bluetooth module and you seems you might be able to help me on this one. I am techie but more computers and was wanting to ask some questions if OK

I recently bought a 2.7tdi a6 Avant S-Line and it has the GPS Ariel and the connection in the armrest for a phone, no cradle just the gold connectors.

When I click on the phone it says no phone installed, I have been told that its possible the blue tooth module is faulty and can be found under the passenger seat, going by a step by step if found on the forum that bit seems good, I was also told it was attached to the seat, but looking at the step by step its under the carpet not on the seat?

I have also been told because I have the colour MMI then I must have Bluetooth installed and the fact the gold connector for the phone cradle is there also, is this true?

As an electronic engineer it seems that I am guessing that the bluetooth module is broken, also I think I have an old MMI software also Version as follows

    SW: C6-HU 34.5.0 0632
    HW:C6-HU 6350D2.0
    FC SW 05071AFC6AB320060
FC PS 0060 FC HW: H01

Can I purchase the MMI update discs from any Audi garage? and do they come with updated Sat nav also as many places and roads are not on my sat nav, sorry was used to my 1998 A6 until some pilarch decided to cut across me at 60mph in an astra vxr, the audi was written off but opened that astra up like butter

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Ive never had an audi with MMI before and was just getting used to my bluetooth alpine unit I had fitted to my Audi A6 owned for 12 years before that Astra VXR came along, his fault

    best rgds
    Dave

Why do you think it's broken? Buy a cradle for your phone, plug it in and bobs your uncle

Sorry to be blunt but don't just assume something is broken, get a fault code scan done.

As Chris says "why do you think it is broken?" Do you see a Bluetooth option in the MMI screen and is it greyed out or available? Is it simply that your phone won't connect when you go through the connection process? Also is the rear washer working properly (many of the Bluetooth failures reported are caused by the washer pipe under coming apart under the passenger seat and soaking the bt module)?

As to MMI update disks, yes they are available from an Audi dealer or alternatively as you only need to use them once you often find them on a well known auction site, just make sure they are genuine and search on hear for instructions as to how to do the upgrade. Some of the more recent phones require the car to have the latest firmware (5570) to connect via bluetooth. MMI update disks do not include map data for the navigation. These are also available from your Audi dealer but cost more than a high spec TomTom unit which is actually better.

    Hi Guys

    thanks for the speedy reply,

rear washer working fine and dandy in fact the whole car is working fine and dandy except bluetooth that I am supposed to have and yet cannot see any of 5 different phones in the household. I dont also see any cradles for Samsung Galaxy S3's only for some nokias and for some I-Phones that I will never own. But i have tried a mates iphone and it does not see the car.

When I press the phone button it comes up no telephone installed, reading up on bits and pieces on the net it says I have no bluetooth if this is what I see, but I am told GPS ariel colour MMi then there is bluetooth.

Any more advise is greatly appreciated

    Best rgds

    Dave

ps if you have any links for a cradle for a galaxy s3 then I would appreciate it

From memory, you have to pair your Bluetooth phone with the car trough MMI before the car will recognise the phone. Your manual should tell you how to do this. You do not need to have a phone in the cradle...I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and it remains in my pocket and pairs with the Bluetooth in the car each time. As far as I am aware only Audi main dealers (or specialists with the right equipment) can update MMI or Sat-nav maps and it costs £200-£300 to do this

    Hi there,

Ok I bought the car was told it had Bluetooth and that it had the telephone kit. I might sound a bit stupid here but im not I have been an electronic engineer for more than 20 years so I will ask one question

If the car has GPS Ariel and Colour MMI am I to assume it automatically has Bluetooth fitted because i cannot find it in the MMI which colour 2g High and when i press the telephone button it says NO TELEPHONE INSTALLED
and I can find no options for Bluetooth in the menu??

So it is either not fitted or broken am I correct?

Yet all the stuff seems to be there except a Bluetooth signal to pick up or use, maybe my MMI is too old and needs updated with the newer firmware

Have a look in the brochure for your car (http://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/au...0Sept%2006.pdf) you will see that having MMI High and Sat Nav did not give you phone prep by default, unless you took the Comms Pack. What is odd with your car is that you seem to have the GSM Phone Prep (you have the contacts in the armrest) and that should have given you Bluetooth connectivity for the phone, you did not need the more expensive Bluetooth option to get bluetooth (daft I know!). The only difference was those that had the built in Motorola phone and then you did not get Bluetooth as part of the package and would have needed to specify it separately. As I mentioned in an earlier post you may need to get the latest version of the MMI software (5570) to allow the bluetooth to work with todays phones as it looks as if you ae running an earlier version. Despite (perfectly justified) warnings this upgrade can be done without involving the dealer but obviously at your own risk.

    Hi Guys,

Managed to get a hold of the previous owner there who has informed me yes bluetooth is fitted but for the last year he had the car it did not work and Audi wanted to charge him £450+vat to fit a new module. So looks like broken? or Firmware Im thinking more broken, but at least I now know there is one. Maybe cheaper getting a Parrot fitted instead rather have the audi one though i like my dashboard uncluttered

    cheers

    Dave
