lupo stalled. now starts but immediately stops, epc light somtimes does not come on

hi 2003 1.4 petrol. 16valve lupo died at traffic lights while idling. wouldnly start and then stop. rac man connected computer but not recognised! epc light was not coming on when turning on ignition. battery was very low due to trying to start and lights on using rac mans booster. checked fuses but towed home as could not fix. I recharged battery 24 hrs now epc light does come on when turn on ignition, when starting turns over and immediately stops tried 20 times but the same. forums suggest immobiliser. I have tried with our 2 keys but same, any expert got any other ideas? thanks rick

Starts and then stalls suggests an immo problem - do you have any dash lights?

You need a fault code scan before you do anything. What do you mean by "rac man connected computer but not recognised!"

Does the engine start then cut out ?
You could try changing the battery in the key.
A fault scan would help.

check all the fuses. not sure which one goes but i seem to remember a fault where a pretty important wire chaffes somewhere and causes the fuse to blow. its one of the normal blade fuses in the fuse box. gives the same result as a dodgy immobiliser because iirc it powers the fuel pump.

hi yes all electrics and dash lights etc work. the epc light now comes on every time before starting then goes off but car immediately stops and epc light comes on again. when rac man plugged his laptop into car under ash tray the software was not recognising the car but that was when the epc light was not coming on

Do have home start ? Get the RAC to rescan.
