Hey guys. I'm looking at upgrading my MMI / Maps and I saw this on ebay:

Is it worth the money the guy is asking, and if not is there a better / cheaper alternative. Also, any pitfalls I should consider when updating the MMI / Maps (I've read somewhere that BT functionality may disappear?). My MMI hasn't been updated at all as far as I can see since the car was new (2008) so naturally some of the maps are well out of date.

    Thanks guys

I'm selling my genuine 2013 disc if you're interested.

You possibly won't need those firmware discs so check your current version. Press CAR then SETUP then one of the inner keys, maybe settings, then look for version information then type the top line into here and let us know.

The map disc they're supplying is unfortunately copied so had to remove your link, sorry.

That is of course you have MMI High, ie colour screen above the centre airvents and that the car is a pre-facelift.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the reply - sorry about the link, to be honest I didn't even check that far down the list - my bad

    Software version is SW: C6-HU 51.4.0 0731

Car is MMI High (full colour screen) and indeed a pre-facelift model (I'm guessing lol).

MMI upgrade didn't make any difference to mine (I've a parrot bluetooth and not OEM so disc 2 wasn't needed). As to the Maps the road leading to mine was completed in 2009 and still isn't on the 2013 Maps

    No worries

You're on 5140, so unless you're experiencing any MMI issues I wouldn't bother updating to 5570. You can update the maps however independently so my genuine disc is still open for sale if wanted.

In the time it took me to read the post and log-in to reply; Chris has beaten me to it

The maps, as you know, are a few hundred pounds, so this eBayer is profiting from selling Copyright material. With the MMI upgrade discs, the advice for any flashing/upgrading is don't do it unless your device exhibits the properties that the upgrade was coded to correct. Albeit low, there is a small risk that you could 'brick' your MMI during the upgrade. All it takes is a bit of fluff in the CD player, or opening the drivers door (volt drop of fuel pump and interior light) and it's bye-bye MMI.

One thing that makes me chuckle is there are copies of the MMI upgrade discs being sold for £50, whereas I got mine from the Main Dealer for £6.23...

One pitfall with using copied disc's is they lazer has to work harder and commoly wears out faster (documented on many forums). Id always go genuine at least you know its of good quality and your not funding drug dealers
