Hi, first post, and only because my car (4 weeks ownership) has just decided not to play,
having spent the last 2 days reading horror story's on here I am expecting the worse.

the car is currently sat in Audi while they work out what is up with it.

car has full Audi service history, apart from belt which was done at an Indy 10,000 miles back
the car had a full Audi service 4 days before it died

the problem happened last Saturday, pulled away from lights quite normal, after 50 meters slowed for next lights, as the revs dropped, you could hear a faint noise from engine, pulled in, opened bonnet and rattle seemed to be coming fro rear of engine, and near top.....as I was only 100m from Audi got back into car to take it in, and after 10 m car cut out and wouldn't start, it would turn over though......... no warning lights or any warnings.

Audi came down and took it into there workshop, and as of yet they don't have a definitive idea, only that the timing belt looked loose.

however, what I did also notice was oil down the right side of block by oil filter, I'm hoping this is as a result of spilt oil from the service (at Audi) 4 days previous...........but it had pooled a little on road, so not looking great, but surely
a major loss of oil or a major timing jump would be pretty straight forward to diagnose , I am expecting the worse, but looking for ideas, so when I go in Friday, I can push them in the right direction

When the cambelt was fitted on these engines you should replace the tentioner bolt because people changing them overdo them and result in the bolt snapping, timing belt jumping over etc.If they still have no clue ask them to check the timing belt idler and tentioner being in place.

Well a little update, Audi have said the tensioner had failed causing the belt to slip, they are removing the head as there is no compression......

hopefully it it is only valves.

are the heads all the same on the 2 litre TDI engines, I've seen a few remanufactured ones on the web

cambelt tensioner had failed, bent all valves and 2 pistons were sitting below deck level, indicating bent rods on 2 at least, plus egr valve was knackered ......so not really the best news but didnt really have much options, certainly didnt trust getting an engine of the ebay traders, and the cost of re-manufactured from Ivor searl, came in very close to the price from Audi, so was a bit of a no brainer, as i get the full 2 year warranty from Audi, and the oil pump drive has all the latest additions that were needed, i have to say Audi Blackburn, have been brilliant though
