3G not transferred to the car Internet not available –

Using a galaxy S3 with the MMI and RSApp system on Vodafone. S3 has android 4.3 loaded.
Car used to have 3G connection but after 2 months in the body shop after an RTA it only seems to have 2G and I get a fault warning that internet is not available. Google maps still load on 2G!
Phone states 3G or HDPSA(?) before connection - when connected car says 2G.
Tried an S3 on O2 and 3G is stated on the car system when connected.
Dealer reckons its phone fault. Vodafone say its a Samsung issue and won't help - but seeing an O2 connection stays at 3G I don't agree..
Stuck in the middle but would appreciate any suggestions from others
