  1. RNS-E to factory BT wiring - VCDS-Lite issue

    So I replaced my factory BT module with one that would support the BT-Hi features and from the go everything at a basic level is working - I can pair the phone and screen tells me when a call in incoming/in progress and the audio comes through the speakers - basically I have the same services as I had before the swap

    My issue is as follows - I cannot connect to the module via VCDS-Lite so cannot change the settings to enable the advanced services

    The previous module would take a few attempts to connect but it would eventually but I have not managed to get the new one to connect at all

    My question is do all the connections to the BT unit come from the RNS-E including kline?... if so I will pull it out and look for a bad wire

    EDIT - the seller for the new unit stated that it came from a B7 which is also Kline so I am sure this is not the issue - I am assuming a loose wire but not sure where to start

    any takers...?!?.. I am just waiting for my radio removal keys to arrive and I will pull the RNS-E - do all the wires for the BT modules come directly off the RNS system??... especially the Kline one?

    Thanks

    I'll have a look later but try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins and see if that solves anything.

    Do a RNSE reboot first so hold in RADIO+SETUP until it restarts and try again.

    Thanks as always Chris - I have pulled fuse 8 and left it for 10 minutes and done the reset - my old unit was also a little intermittent and needed a few attempts to connect but I haven't got in once on the new one

    It is working though exactly as the old one was, this is why I suspect the kline wire is a bit iffy, just wanted to know the source of this cable to trace it back for damage or a break

    I think the Kline runs up to the instrument cluster but I'm out for breakfast so will have a look later for you.

    ok.. pulled the unit and all looks good.. no loose wires

    Then I had a thought - I remembered I set the 3rd from last bit on the RNS-E code to 2 to make the previous unit display on the screen so I set this back to 7 and reset the unit

    Now I get the display on the screen showing the dialler, carrier etc but no address book down load - so even though I cannot get onto the BT module to change the config I think it is almost or maybe there

    Questions
    1 - can the RNS-E download the phonebook from an iOS7 device?
    2 - If I can dial from the RNS-E and also set VM number etc does this mean the BT module is coded to BT HI + Kline/RNS-E already?

    Thanks

    Still need to look at this but

    1 - yes RNSE and module AA works fine with my iPhone
    2 - Not sure, but again you would need to check coding as per

    Thanks again - I am pretty sure this is going in the right direction but I may still need to tweak the BT module #77 to be as follows

    0
    0 = audi
    1 = Comfort (for RNS-E high/RNS-Low)
    0 = No MFSW
    7 = Kline + RNS-E
    0 = No Speech
    2 = English Language

    0010702

    On my last unit I could only set 0000702 as the A unit didn't support BT-HI, my guess is that 00?0000 or 0000?00 still need a tweak but of course I cannot access the unit..

    Did some research on retrofit installations and all the connections for the BT module seem to come off the loom on the back off the RNS-E

    Another thing I noticed was that if I do try to access #77 using VCDS-Lite it tries 3 x then fails and then there is a bong and a rebong as the phone unpairs and re pairs - I am now wondering if this may be an issue with my cheap ebay cable timing out on this module...

    0010702 sounds right.

    Could well be a cable problem but A,A is a bit broad to suggest someone who could scan/code locally Maybe time to get the full fat VCDS?
