I have a petrol 1.8 TSFI and have noticed that since the winter (maybe a coincidence) that my exhaust is constantly blowing out white smoke. The car itself drives as it always has, but it has been kind of bugging me. Even after a 25mile drive tonight (not freezing cold but let's say mild-winter) the exhaust is still smoking away, even when other cars at the traffic lights are not. I know that as the exhaust is cold in the winter this will happen, but it usually clears itself once things are warmed up a little. My other car was a Lexus and did not have this problem so I am a little worried..

When was the car last serviced?

Could you take a video when the smoke is at its worst?

Smoke or condensation ? Mine is the same - cold weather = condensation.
What does it smell like, oil ? Any gunk under the cap ? What colour is the coolant ?

Yeah, I have a 2010 1.8TFSI and it blows out white "smoke" too even after driving a while (not white smoke exactly but more like steam (so condensation in line with previous post)).

Just got home from work, I had a conversation with a chap at the office who mentioned that it could be the fact that my car and ALOT of Petrol A4's guzzle OIL. So potentially could be the excess being burnt off. The car was last service in March, it's due for the full-service next Feb-ISH... Absolutely pouring down outside so pending weather I will try and take a video. As I said, car runs fine but I was a little concerned at the smoke while sat stationary with other cars.. looked out of place 25miles later...

My car drinks oil too. Topping up a litre every few months / approx 2000 miles. Within Audi tolerance but my old car, never had top up between services.

If its white its not oil but water vapour not to worry as long as the coolant level doesn't drop. Some just seems worse than others in cold weather.Oil burning will give blue smoke if excessive .Although the handbook says some use is normal I wouldn't be happy if mine did so .
