I did a scan of Chris's car (from the request in what is currently the next thread down) and it has me a little perplexed at the moment. I ran a full scan and it came up clean initially (apart from a 18025 - Glow Plug Pre-Heat Indicator (K29) P1617 - 001 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent, which seems odd on a petrol car), but as soon as I then logged in to the Xenon module (55) it threw up an error 01539.

I have tried to clear this and perform the adjustment in basic settings, but it won't do anything at all in there. When I look at the advanced measurement blocks, there are readings for the actuator and the two level sensors (which do move when we apply pressure to the front or rear) but the "learning" settings for front and rear are both at 0.0%. I ran the output tests and the lights appeared to be functioning perfectly in those. Chris recently replaced the battery in the car and I am wondering if this has caused it to lose the settings and I just need to reapply them.

The log from the advanced settings shows this:

    Address 55: Xenon Range (8P0 907 357 A)

    17:24:58
    69.4 % Front Sensor (G78) (actual)
    72.2 % Rear Sensor (G76) (actual)
    40.6 % Actuator Motor Activation
    0.02 s Time Constant
    0.0 % Front Sensor (G78) (learned)
    0.0 % Rear Sensor (G76) (learned)

I also checked it on my own car as that's an 8P with Xenons and it worked fine in basic settings and gave learned readings that were about the same as the sensor readings in the advanced measurements. My settings for one of the sensors were different to Chris's but his did both show movement so I'm assuming they are ok.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I'll give myself a quick punch in the nuts for that awful pun that I just made purely by accident too.

Very odd as RT states to do the Basic Settings, is there anything wrong with the headlights?

I hate these sortof faults as they appear for no reason just like those electrical ones I got the other day

    01539 - Ross-Tech Wiki

    Possible Symptoms

    Headlight Adjustment disabled
    Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active

    Possible Causes

    Headlight Adjustment not performed
Aftermarket Suspension installed (i.e. lowered Suspension)
Level Sensor Readings out of Range
    Level Sensor(s) faulty
    Level Sensor Mounting damaged/faulty

    Possible Solutions

    Perform Headlight Adjustment
See Vehicle specific Diagnostic Procedures for Details
    Check Level Sensors
    Check Level Sensor Mounting

    Special Notes

If Headlight Adjustment (Basic Setting) fails, check Level Sensors.
Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) if Level Sensor Readings within Specification.
When stored in combination with 01537, fix that one first.
There have been reports of lowered vehicles displaying an error message in Basic Settings due to incorrect level sensor readings. If the vehicle height sensor(s) are bottomed out, it may be necessary to modify the sensor bracket to allow normal adjustment to occur. Check to make sure that the sensor arms do not have their pivots facing the wrong direction as shown in this Mk5 platform VW thread: [VW Vortex]

Yes that's the odd thing - it all seems to work fine and the output tests make the lights range up to max, down to min and into the normal position accordingly. It wouldn't need any sort of security code before being able to do it would it?
