I've figured out how to mute audio during telephone calls and when Park Pilot is operating. Anybody know how to mute the sound source when the nav lady is speaking? It's the basic Nav / Infotainment package.
Probably in a pit underneath a steam loco somewhere.

    Pretty sure you can't.

I've searched but had no success
You can get 'her' to repeat the last verbal nav instruction, if you need, by pressing the right-hand round knob.

The music audio volume will drop automatically when a nav announcement is made (you set how aggressively this is done in the menus). Only problem is, this only kicks in when the overall volume is above a certain level. If you're playing back MP3s that have been 'normalised' to 98% peak level (which just about all are these days) then chances are you don't have your volume level set very high and the car doesn't "think" the volume needs reducing. If you have an older CD or listen to a 'quieter' channel and can turn the volume up higher then you'll notice the volume drop when an announcement plays. Bit of a shame they got the 'threshold' level wrong for this though so most of the time the volume isn't adjusted

Can you talk me through the menu to set how aggressively this happens.

All I can find is an enable box to auto mute a phone call when nav speaking

I thought it was to mute the NAV if you were on the phone? Otherwise I agree I have not found any setting that I can adjust to reduce or mute any audio source when NAV announcements are made. It's totally different in my Audi and if the radio is on or if music is playing from one of he onboard sources it's muted when there is a NAV instruction. I can set the level of mute in the MMI system. But the VW system is not the same.

Sorry, yes (or rather no), I was confusing that setting with the one that lets you set how aggressively the volume is reduced for the park-assist. However, what I said about the volume reducing for SatNav announcements is still correct - it does do this automatically, but only if the audio volume is above a certain level (which it won't be unless you're listening to audio that hasn't been 'normalised' to an inch of its life). Easy to test/experience, just turn your radio up loud and then press the right-hand knob to get the satnav to speak - you'll hear the audio volume reduced while the announcement is made.
