I have looked at several postings relating to the glow plug light flashing but have not been able to find anything related to my problem. Here goes:

I have a '61 plate 2.0 litre TDI (140) with Start/Stop which had its first service in October and has done 23K miles. My wife was going up to see her mother in this car about 10 days ago and, leaving at 4.30, hit all of the M25 traffic and did about 10 miles in an hour! I had a call that the light was flashing so she returned home. I went out to check and the light was off. I asked about power loss, but she was going so slowly that she never got up any speed.

Last night i was a bit late and decided to take a different route home (which I thought would be quicker.....) and was using the Heathrow Spur to cross from the M4 to A4. Anyway, this took about 40 minutes with the engine doing Start/Stop and the light came on again. Once i had got through the blockage and was able to get up some speed I noticed the loss of power. On returning home the light again went off and everything is back to normal.

I can only think that the problem is related to the Start/Stop system and that maybe I should disable it in situations such as this.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have not had any scans done, but will be calling up the dealer next week.

    Thanks

Definitely scan needed, could be a nnumber of things.

Common problems are DPF pressure sensors which will throw up a flashing glow and in a short while a EML.

Just let Audi scan and diagnose, no point in spending money on a independent scan for Audi to do it for zilch.

Problem is the distance to the Audi dealerships having decided never to go back to the glass palace on the A4 (was much nicer at Gillette corner, now VW). I suppose I could go from work to Slough. The local garage knows that it will be getting my business once the 3 years is up, so they are quite nice about it (so long as the owner isn't there! best on Saturdays)

Had a scan and it appears to be a sticky EGR valve (showing on the scan as "intermittent"). I'll contact Audi to sort it out.

Hi !I've got the same problem with my A3 1..6tdi. The fault codes were P046C00 and P040800 both are related to the EGR valve. I then set about cleaning the EGR valve. When I removed the EGR and the pipes around it I discovered a heavy deposit of sooty muck and black gunk. I used a EGR spray and cleaning the components out thoroughly. Sadly after a few miles the flashing coil light returned ! I will now be purchasing a new EGR valve - what a bad time to buy one just after Christmas. I'll keep you posted how I get on.

I must say I forgot to mention it at the service (the fault had been cleared) due to my brake problems. I hadn't really though about it until today when I was in a slow moving queue of traffic and it happened again even though the start/stop was not operating. Cleared when the engine was switched off, as usual. Maybe it was due to the cold weather...... (I had just done 60 miles on the M25 at a reasonable pace, so it was pretty warm).
