A6 service warning

Hi there
my audi A6 2.4se (w reg) says service! on the dash when I select a gear after first starting it (in red LEDS) with a big 'OK' above it in amber LEDs. Does this mean it needs a service or that everythink is 'OK' and I don't need a service???? The car runs fine.
