    Hi guys,

Been reading up on my new purchase (Due March 2014) Mk7 Golf Gtd manual. There are 3 modes, which one is best? I love the fact that you can fiddle with various things. But!!. I think it would be left in normal mode. Thoughts & opinions please???

Also, any decent reviews on my Golf Gtd?.

    Thanks,

    Rappy.

There are actually 4 modes Eco,Normal,Sport and individual in which you can select any of the modes in acceleration or steering etc.

Individual then you can set the different parameters to your own taste, I have everything in Sport apart from the Climate Control which is in Eco. Oh by the way my Golf is a 1.4 ACT GT not a GTD.

Climate Control in ECO? you mean the ACC? That's Adaptive Chassis Control and is relation to your suspension:

ACC is an innovative system that allows you to choose the style of drive you want at any time. Three ride settings are offered - Normal, Sport and Comfort - all at the touch of a button in the centre console. This operates the electrically regulated dampers and steering. In Sport mode, for instance, relatively stiff dampers match the changed steering characteristics, offering a driving experience like that of an agile sports car. The damping also adapts itself to the respective road conditions. Each shock absorber is connected to a control which calculates the optimum setting for each wheel from the sensor data and other information received from the steering, braking, engine, transmission and driving assistance systems. This allows the ACC to react continually (up to a thousand times per second) to bumps in the road, changing lanes or bendy roads, reducing pitch and roll motion and provide the optimum settings for every driving situation.

No I mean climate control as it affects the fuel economy you can adjust it as part of the drivers setting.
ACC just let's you adjust the chassis and has no effect on your MPG.

Yeah, you should have ordered red!

For me, Sport is my most economical mode.

Eco severely blunts throttle response to the point it just frustrates and you end up using more throttle as a result.

Normal is more restrained at the lower end (plenty enough to avoid tramping), but actually has more go in the higher gears than Sport. It is noticeably thirstier than Sport.

Sport has most go in the lower end but not as much for 5th/6th acceleration. It's easiest for the car to tramp from a standstill in Sport.

If I wasn't worried about mpg then Normal gives the most useful spread of performance.

My mpg is about 10% lower than my Scirocco 170TDI it replaced, but I have noticed very recently that my GTD has oil temp about 4C cooler under every load scenario. 90C when fully warm and low load is on it, up to about 97C when under high load and/or there is a DPF regen happening. Could my car's set-up to run a little cooler be hammering my mpg?
