    Hello,

My daughter's Polo (year 2000 6N2 1.0 AUC ) has developed an interesting intermittent fault.

With the ignition "Off" and the key removed from the switch she has had it happen a couple of times
where the Oil Pressure lights starts to flash, the buzzer sounds and just for good measure
if that doesn't get your attention the Airbag light is also lit. The fault seems to clear itself after a short while.

Has anyone any ideas or seen anything like this before ?

    Rgds.

I got the car scanned with Vagcom last night and it throws up 2 DTCs in

    the instrument cluster module ;

    01314 - Engine Control Module
    49-10 - No Communiations - Intermittent

    01321 - Control Module for Airbags (J234)
    49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent

so I guess that I am looking at CAN-Databus Wiring / Connectors from / to the Engine Control Module or the instrument cluster ?

The strange thing is, that I not getting any fault lights whilst the car is running, they are only occurring with the car ignition switched off.
Sometimes the key is in the lock and at others it is out , when the lights and noises occur.

Could it be a faulty ignition switch where the dash is still powered but the other systems are not ?

Any constructive thoughts / experience would be appreciated.

    Rgds.

The switch is a weak point on a lot of VAG cars. It's also easy to change and is quite cheap, less than a score, and in stock at most dealers. I'd start there

Thanks for your quick reply Doctle Odd.
I'm thinking along the same lines as yourself i.e. faulty ignition switch.
I will have a go at changing the switch and if it's not throwing up a fault after a couple of weeks I'll post it on the forum.
