    Hi Chaps,

One of the guys at work has an RNS-510 which is suffering from regensburg syndrome.

He's on 28xx at the moment, I know there is version 38xx but I can see a version 4xxx out there now?

Does anyone have the latest version of software for this device?

    Muchos thankos.

If they're anything like RNSE then the firmware is updated with the current year map disc. Not 100% on that but I'll check when I get home.

There are software update CD's around. But if the latest maps are the best way to go then that's OK too :-)

There are various versions of the RNS-510, Does the Maps CD contain them all?

    Sorry, missed this

Seems to be different discs for firmware and maps, the latest version seems to be 5230, but depending on which version of the 510 is fitted it might not take this.

Software updating is a risky business, best avoided if you are a novice and you are not prepared to take a very expensive loss for very little gain. His problem is only a mild annoyance in general and you could make it worse.
It looks like an old "A" or "B" version unit which will not get any advantage from software above Ver. 4020 as above this is really for the new DAB RNS 510's.
Go to this site for all you need to know on RNS 510 units, RNS-510 (MFD3) Navi System. search for Regensburg Syndrome.
and this site (in German but use google to translate) FAQ - Antworten rund ums RNS 510 - Bitte erst lesen
It will give you Chapter and Verse about all SW upgrades in great detail.

Thanks Richard, never knew the 510's could be so complicated.

Thank God the RNSE in my A3 is a bit less complicated than the 510!

    Thank you Richard.

Any tips then? I have the details of the software he is running. Looks like a B unit to me?

I can get more details from the unit if needed?

Happy to upgrade the software. Worst that can happen is he needs to take it to VW to be fixed.

Though he'll be putting the disc in so it's on him if he does it. I did my A6. Which was easy compared to this!!!

It looks like a "B" unit which has been upgraded to a "C" unit by SW 2760. You can upgrade this with SW 3xxx and then to 4xxx. As I understand it, it is best to do it in stages. After this SW level there is no gain with any higher level of SW. for your level of unit.
    1) Try to ensure you get an untampered/modified OEM issue of SW.
    2) Burn it to a quality DVD at as slow a speed as possible.
    3) Follow the instructions fo upgrading religiously (it takes about 1 hr.)
    4) You might lose your Maps and Music, so ensure you have a Map disc (again it takes around 1hr to load the maps to disc in one stint)
    5) Current maps are issue 9 but issue 10 is imminent so it might be worth waiting a week or so.
    6) here is a good source/guide RNS 510 | my-gti.com
    Good Luck Richard
