stop start system fault.

Hello everyone.

I have just purchased my Passat 1.6 blue motion diesel on a 59 plate. I have a question about a possible problem I might be having?

I keep getting a message flash up that says system fault stop start - it has a picture with it - looks maybe like a electricity symbol with a line through it.

Is this a normal generic message showing that not all the criteria for the stop start system has been met, so it can't do it? Or is this indicating a fault?

The actual system has worked on the car. But the other day I went a reasonable journey to Birmingham and back and it didn't work once (temp was under 4degrees)

Anybody able to help me out at all?

Sounds like a fault, best getting it scanned or take it back to the dealer (assuming you bought it trade).

Could you post a picture?

Ah I thought so. Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah I got it trade. So will give them a call. I will grab a picture later and post it (will be after 5 though stuck at work until then)

I have got a couple of pictures of the error message as requested. I just wondered if anyone else has seen/gets this message?

*Edit* The first attachment shows the error symbol in the top right hand corner of the display. The second photo is the main error message that pops up.

I doubt you will get much help outside of a dealer. VW have released almost no information about this system which makes it hard to advise remotely.

Needs a code read really or it's simply a guess,

If the ABS is part of it hope it's cheap sensor.

Ok. Thanks for the replys. Its appreciated. The cars going back to the dealer I purchased it from on Friday so will see what they say. Whatever it is I'm not paying as I've only had the car 7 days from them and its been doing it since I picked it up!
