Ref: 54 Golf 1.9Tdi SE 77Kw To remedy a G44 fault with OSR ABS Sensor, I removed it, although I destroyed it in the process before I realised it could be tapped out with a drift through the wheel bolt hole. The end of the sensor is radially scored down by1mm at one place. Should I just replace the sensor or should I dismantle the hub and inspect the reluctor ring. I have heard a build up of rust can cause the shredding of the sensor, surely this can be dressed off to prevent damage to the new sensor. I believe I need a M18 spline socket and a wheel puller to do the job. The sensor is £50-60 from the ECP/GFS but there is one on ebay for £11, I have heard of these working for people. Any advice on this job is greatly appreciated.

Yes the ring on the back of the wheel bearing corrodes meaning a new wheel bearing, we have to do loads of these on the Golf 5 platform. You do need a hefty M18 to get the bolt out and more so to put a NEW one in, my first one sheared off leaving me in a painful crumpled heap on the floor (stop laughing you ********!) when trying to torque the bolt up to 180Nm plus 180 degrees so I bought a genuine one. The torque figure goes off the scale of my biggest torque wrench which reads to 550Nm!! The bearing slides off, no puller required like on a Golf 4, make sure you get the appropriate 30 or 32-mm bearing.
