I'm looking to get some lowering springs for my 97 passat tdi.

Does anyone have any preferences as to which one to get,

i have been told GMAX are good value for money and do a good job.

Don't just fit lowering springs as your dampers will be worn and they also need to be shorter to match the lowering springs, both typically around 40-mm. My personal favourite combination is Eibach springs and Weitec shortened dampers. You will also need to fit the VW sports suspension shortened bump stops if your car doesn’t already have them.

It is much easier to buy the genuine VAG shortened bump stops for the 1BE specification suspension, £18 each front and £16 each rear.

Sorry for hi-jacking but I am a complete non-mechanic and I also want to lower my standard 2001 TDI SE so that I can get some new 18" wheels.
So far I have deduced that I need:
Lowering springs (Eibach seem good) @ £160
Apparently it is also a good idea to get "shortened dampers". How much would a set of these cost?
Plus I need bump stops at £40 to £60

If somebody can say how much the dampers would cost then it might be possible to know the cost of the parts. I will also need to get a garage to fit all this and that is another £200
