There are lots of posts on here for mpg but nothing for just this engine. Other posts also go onto other subjects which is a shame so please only post if it's about this title. I am awaiting my new car which gets built next week and am curious to what others are getting to the gallon.

Ours is mainly used for very short runs, never drops below 40. On longer runs, 45-50 is common. Fantastic engine in any case.

I've only done 600 miles so far in my 1.4 tsi 140 GT with DSG and I'm averaging according to computer, about 46 mpg on mixed driving without motorways. This is in Normal as I found Eco did not make any difference. Hoping will do more he fully run in.

Well it looks like I made the right choice of engine. I was going for the diesel but got put off by all the dpf issues I read about on this forum. I have never heard a bad word about the 1.4act. It will be a bit different in performance though compared with my last car "Jaguar XF 3.0ltr turbo" but looking forward to a little nippy car again.

Averaging 45mpg on a commute 15 miles each way, going from sea level up to 850ft and back to sea level each way, mostly free-flowing A road, about 5 minutes' queueing each way. Used to get 55-60 mpg from a 1.6tdi Mk6 Golf Cabriolet on the same route, but had a lot less enjoyment....

I've done 8.5k in mine. Am not one for keeping stats, but the display shows around 50mpg for motorway runs with speed set at around 75mph. Can get to 55 on the motorway but you really have to try. Long term average on the computer is 43mpg over 2.5k, average speed 35mph. Based on experience with four previous VAG diesels, I reckon this engine is 5-10mpg more thirsty. Factor in cost of fuel and there's not much in it?

It's a brilliant engine, can't fault it. Sadly though I have to give this car back at end of January due to change of job. Test drove a 1.6 tdi at the week end - terrible racket and vibration in contrast to the 1.4, I could not live with that, I've been spoiled.

Had the car about 10 days so far. Still on the 1st tank but have only managed 35mpg for about 350 miles so far so nowhere near others on here. I have maybe been enjoying the car a little too much though and pretty much all that has been city driving.

Have had a few journeys where I have averaged 45mpg and am going to better try out the mpg on this next tank, I expect it to easily be above 40mpg.

Ps - if you drive past a wall or similar at low speed with a window open you can clearly hear that the engine's gone into 2 cylinder mode - it sounds like a very quiet 2CV!

Hi all had my mk7 for about 5 weeks and 650mls was only averaging 37mpg but it is now going up. On a 15mile motorway trip got 64mpg which I think is great. I constantly see +40 around town now.love the 1.4act engine. Still yet to take it for long motorway trip. So far only got about 350mls out of a tank of fuel but expect this to go up next time.
