I'm new here so I hope I've posted this in the right forum.

I bought a 54 Golf 1.9Tdi SE 77Kw in May, the engine management light was on. After I flattened the (weak) battery working on/servicing the car the ABS, ESP and steering light appeared. They have been lit for the last 4,000 miles. MOT time is looming so I need to sort this out. I fitted a new battery and had a diagnostic check at my MOT station with a small hand held machine, to be told they couldn't find or reset the faults and that I would need to go to a specialist. I did see glow plugs and the OSR ABS sensor listed on their computer.

I tested the glow plugs to find two having an open circuit. I've found 4x Beru plugs for £38.30 at carparts4less and 4x Bosch for £29.95 at ebay shop parts2clear. I think I'll order the Beru plugs as I've read that Bosch can be manufactured in India/China and have related reliability problems.

I'll take a look at the NSR wheel sensor but what are my options now? Even if I fix the faults will the warning lights go out or does this require dealer equipment? Regarding the steering light, I have read about steering to the left, then the right to extinguish the steering warning light but it didn't work for me. Do these three warning lights always appear when the battery is disconnected/flattened? if so I will be frightened to disconnect a battery in future even though many jobs advise this, including changing the glow plugs.

Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.
