Hi, i have posted on here regarding a loose pipe, my knowledge has grown a little on the matter and now i know it is a loose intercooler pipe under the near side headlight. I was wondering whether anyone could give suggestions as to how i could solve the problem of making it stay on, which will ultimately restore performance on my 150 tdi and also prevent the smoking from the back! I have heard the terms maf, and egr being mentioned on here but know not what they are.

    Any help will be appreciated
    thanks

The pipes on these blow off due to the steel metal clip wearing away the barb on the aluminium to rubber coupling and the pipe will have to be replaced to stop it blowing off. You can open the barbs up slightly when they have worn through to a hole but it doesn’t last. It is a common problem on the 130 and 150 Golf 4 and plastic coated clips would help but it isn't a very reliable design. Every time the turbo boosts, you can see these fittings move and that is what causes the wear.Whatever happened to worm drive clips?

thx for your advice! would you suggest i try using clips other than the ordinary C clip which holds the pipe together!

I would suggest using a coated clip if such a thing were available.
