On an SD card. Not had the need to use the CD in 10 months of ownership and, in all honesty, don't think I could go back to messing about with them in a car!

Assuming, as you havn't said, that you have not upgraded this on your GTD order you will get as standard a single CD player, MDI and a SD card reader.

What size/ type of SD card?. Do I need to format it? Looks like I will be busy copying all my music to sd cards. Does it show album, & playlist on the display?

Just got a 16GB at present but sure it'll take larger. Shows album artwork & track etc. but have the navigation display as default so don't pay much attention to to the music information.

Had a 6CD changer built into the head unit on my Scirocco, but never fed it a single CD. All my music is now at high bitrate MP3 (320kbps). You have the choice of SD card, with XCHD maxing out capacity of 2Tb (although cost would be huge), or an MDI to USB cable and use USB memory sticks. Best compromise of cost vs storage is a 32 or 64Gb card in exFAT format.

I have a 250gb 2.5 inch portable hard drive using the mdi to usb from my MK6, it served it's purpose in there for three years and I hope it will do the same. I have my entire mp3 collection, 110gb on there, a little over 23000 tracks.

I play my bagpipes in the car and store them in the boot when not in use.
