Had my first bad exp of the discover nav at the weekend. I find it quite slow to instruct at times also doesn't give any lane info ie if there's 4 lanes (in a city centre) and you need to be in the 4th lane it doesn't warn you it just says "now turn right"... so it can be hard to follow at times I've found.

    Interested to hear others thoughts

Only issues I've found in 6 months of using it are; it's always late to tell you to exit a roundabout (but otherwise, directions are given in plenty of time) and it seems to have trouble with road numbers that have more than one four in them - e.g. the A444 - instead of A-four-four-four, it tends to say A-fff-fff-four. Otherwise, seems pretty reliable. The lane guidance bit depends entirely on whether the data is included in Navteq map or not and is the same on any satnav's that use their data.

Main wish-list items for me would be a) ability to enter destination using Lat/Long GPS coordinates (postcode is just not accurate enough for door-to-door) and b) ability to install our own POI's. But, to be fair, I was aware that neither of these were available when I ordered it. They may add the first one with a firmware update (this happened with my previous RNS-510) but they'll never enable the second as it's a value-add of the pro vs. media.

I've not checked on Mrs A's Golf but on my Audi (similar system) there are options for how much voice guidance that you get from "none" to "too much". Might be worth a look through the menus. Regarding the late announcements the sat Nav in my Audi does this sometimes. M49 where you join the second severn crossing is one that I've noticed. The instruction to turn left happens after I'm at least 30 yards beyond the roundabout. I think it's a mapping / gps issue as has been suggested.
Probably in a pit underneath a steam loco somewhere.
