    Hi,

I have a 2010 2.0 tdi Passat, this morning I found that when I pressed the clutch pedalit went straight to the floor and stayed there.

The only way it returns is if you grab it and pull it, there is no pressure there whatsoever and will not engage the gears.

I had a quick go at bleeding it, but there was hardly any fluid pumping through.

I am guessing that this means the master cylinder has gone?

I bought one today and had a quick look, it looks like a bit of a nightmare to do I think.

So would be much appreciated if anyone can throw some light on how best to do it.

Does the whole pedal assembly have to come out?

I it best to tackle it from above, coming in from the engine bay or from below?

    Many thanks.

It's a bit premature buying a master cyliner. I think it's a concentric slave that goes inside the bell housing, Gearbox out if it's gone

I got a bit confused earlier because there seems t be a slave cylinder on top of the gearbox, so I was thinking it did't have concentric slave.........am I wrong?

If so is likely that the part I am seeing is a slave cylinder or somthing else?

If it the concentric, should I not get fluid pumping through to where you bleed the system still, or if the concentric has gone does this create a break in the fluid cycle?

Not sure, car has been towed to my garage.

I am pretty sure that it is a slave cylinder though, if that is the case I guess that there wouldnt be a concentric as well..true??

Any idea on how to go about changing the master cylinder?

The master cylinder that's bolted to the servo? It's fairly easy to do you'll probably need to replace your brake fluid. Slave is easier the one outside the book you can change in 90 minutes

The clutch going to the floor and needing pulling up is often a sign of clutch/dmf failure. Did you check the fluid level for the brake master cylinder which is also the reservoir for the clutch.
The clutch slave cylinder is in the gearbox bell housing and if this leaks you will lose clutch function. Find the pipe from the clutch master cylinder (pedal) to the slave and check for damage/leak.
