Turbo whistling and slight dump noise....

Hello guys,

my a3 is making some noises, my turbo wines like my other half and I get a psssssssst like noise when I drop my clutch to change gear through 1st 2nd and 3rd,

my my birds dad recons my turbo is going to go ban at some point soon (I hope not)

My motor is 2006 and has done 80k if that helps at all

Any other symptoms aside from the moaning female noise, eg any cut outs, loss of power or reduced mpg?

It's not cut out at any point, can't say I've noticed a loss of power as it's been doing it since I got the car 4 months ago, mpg seems to be ok, a mate reckons it could be a boost leak somewhere?

Not got a vcds, but got a mate who has. May have to go pay him a little visit this weekend to see If anything is amiss!

If there was a boost leak, more often than not you'd be able to hear it.

Check all the vac hoses (or ask your budgie's father to do it) and get a fault scan completed just in case.

What engine is it? Cars half that age have turbo whine so it's by itself fairly normal. Keep to regular oil changes, some long journeys, and let it cool towards the end of a drive and it should stay in the same condition for a long while. Your birds dad is kind of right, it will fail at some point, but same with any turbo. What seems like slight dump noise also common on the BKD engine and maybe others - it's probably clutch noise IMHO because one flaw is the clutch is hard to full disengage. If you fully let off gas and only then fully depress clutch (right to the bottom, hard as you can), do you still get the noise?
