Never really fancied one myself, but each to their own. In all honesty I could never find one that seemed very personal to me that I could justify the cost.

What did you have in mind? Personalising to the car or your name? Or something else?

I've got a 'dateless' plate on mine, three letters followed by three numbers. You can't tell if the car is two weeks or two years old.

That said I've never been bothered about having the latest plate or driving an older car, however, it was a gift and I suspect not very expensive.

I have a plate from 1991 on my A3, had it since new buying my Pug 309 and it's always been transferred off any car that I've had it on once they're fit for the scrapper! Always meant to put it on my A6 but never happened.

    3 letters then 3 numbers.

Is it as much as personalising the car to your name for some as perhaps de personalising the car ie to make it dateless as suggested above?

I never really thought about the latter - but I see it now.

A bit like de badging the car I suppose. I would definitely fall into that group more than the personalising to name etc.

Personal plates can be good, but the process to swap the plate when you change the car can put a spanner in the works and the DVLA have now closed the local offices to save cash and a friend of mine told me the current delay was like 4 weeks - which is a nightmare.

We have one and I will struggle to have another.
