hi guys, new to the forum (and to audi) so bear with me. Picked up a 99 a3 quattro 1.8t on sunday, been running fine up until tonight. basically, the car wont turn over whats so ever. the battery seems out of the question as i can put my lights on etc. At the first stage on the ignition the OK sign comes on as usual, the parking, battery and EPC lights stay on, and the orange key and abs fade out as i'm sure they did before, but it will just not even try to turn over. could this be an immobiliser problem?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nathan

Check the wires on the starter are on and clean especially the solenoid wire. Put it in 2nd gear handbrake off and rock the car the starter may be jammed. When you try to start the car with the lights on do they dim? I doubt it's anything to do with your immobiliser

the factory immobiliser lets it start and run for a second, then cut out, so as doc says, its not this. could be an aftermarket one though ??

Need to check the starter solenoid volage when requesting cranking. It could be a connection problem or burnt out contacts in the solenoid. Regards Peter

Cheers for the help guys, i'll give it a good look/clean up tomorrow. i'm assuming its just one of those things that will be fine one minute and not the next. looks like i'm taking the civic to work in the morning, boring times.

quick update...I took the connector off the solenoid earlier to inspect it and noticed the wire was fraying. when i went to put it back on the wire actually broke off the connector, so i had to make a bodge job/repair on the wire and it seems to have worked for now. just wondering if replacement wires with the connectors are readily available from anywhere, maybe audi themselves? cheers

The connector is called a spade connector they are about 12 for a quid. You just bare half an inch of the wire push it into the connector and crimp it. You could treat yourself to this Wire Crimper/Stripper with Terminals 100 Insulated Red Blue Yellow Spade Ring... | eBay

Cheers for reply, i've soldered a piece of wire from the black plastic connector and then used spade connectors to join this to the other piece of wire. Was just wondering wether u can get new ones of the black connectors as it had plastic filled in to hold the wire in. Maybe i'm being fussy.
