"newer heard and now again" sounds like generic customer service response. Well, we all are with you!
You have to just say that it has been confirmed that this update improves (but not completely solve) the steering response and keep on asking.

Oh well, the final response from the Service Dept was that after 3 days they can find no fault with my car and they tested it against a similar model and it drove the same?? (funny that considering the other car would have had the update also). My salesman who has been fantastic throughout this also confirmed that he thought the steering was too light and unresponsive but was basically told "what would he know". However while my car was in for the 3 days my salesman loaned me a A7 Black Edition 245 and on my return I commented how good it felt on the twisties compared to my "updated" A6. So long story short I have my new A7 Black Ed arriving this week for a fantastic deal. One thing though, no software updates will be going near my car unless safety related without having it in writing it can be reverted to original .

It's outrageous that you had to resort to trading it in as they were unprepared to resolve the problem. I would've been tempted to tell them to swivel and choose another make instead. Well I hope you enjoy the A7 and I completely hear what you're saying about not letting them near it with any upgrades. I've told my dealer the same thing. Before any similar upgrades I'll want to test drive an "up"graded car first.

Please Note posted this in another forum but have just found this one. The more the merrier as far as i am concerned the UK needs a fix to this problem now.I had my 2013 S5 serviced yesterday and they performed a steering update allegedly to deal with the notchiness felt around the center, I had this issue so I agreed to the update.Basically my car is ruined. I have drive select/dynamic steering on the car, all steering modes are now the same. They are all light, provide no feel feedback, weight or resistance, I even think the lock to lock is now the same too in comfort and dynamic!I have a £50k car with most of the toys on that I no longer want to drive. I am waiting for Audi to call me back, god knows what I will do if it is irreversible. It is like they did an update for an A5 rather than an S5 with drive select/dynamic (if there is one)Also I nearly ditched it this morning turning into my favorite fast bend this morning (conditions allowed for obviously), basically over steered into the corner the changes to the steering are huge and not good.Any thoughts or similar guys please assist if you can, what next?!Thanks all.Update. Car went to Audi dealership today for a road test with a Master Technician. Instantly he said it was wrong, in fact a little dangerous with a tendency for you to ovesteer on bends as it so light. He also confirmed drive select know has no effect on steering whatsoever. To their credit, they have taken the car off me straight away, put me in a loan car (A4 TDI feels much better in corners than my S5 now, seriously) and are getting hold of Audi technical immediately to see if they can find a solution. At least they completely agree with me so that's a start. I told them I am not having the car back until it is sorted, as I am in one of their loan cars in essence they need to get hold of someone senior and get a fix in place soonest. Will advise, fingers crossed.

Realise you have an S5 but probably worth pointing them in the direction of the post above from Eddo1968. If they can create a solution for European A6s then possibly there is a solution for other models and surely if it works in Europe then it can work for UK cars too (or at least worth investigating!)

Will do thanks. Update for you anyway in case other cars affected.Update far you all.Master Tech took S5 for a spin and agreed completely. They put me in a loaner immediately and reckon the fault is with the software on the steering rack, not the update itself. So they still have the car (4 days now) and the part is on back order unfortunately, they assure me Audi consider it top priority and that the new rack with fix the car. I am skeptical but they seen confident. The car is so bad, at least if their fix does not work they can hang on to it, as I am in a car from Audi now rather than a car from the dealership that should jolly them along. The dealership have been superb thus far, just hope they can fix the bloody thing, will get back to you!On the notchiness, I think it affects all cars regardless of dynamic/drive select. Only when cold though as the fluid is too viscous, the update make the pump work harder to over come this problem apparently...

The pump working harder probably explains the complaints of the steering becoming lighter?
