    Hi folks,

I thought I would drop this in a new thread as Im sure I am not the only person who has gone through this,.

I ordered a new A6 in Jan and the paperwork said est.delivery of 9th April, for the past few months the dealer has been great at keeping me updated even though there was nothing to say.
A couple of weeks ago I asked why there were no updates if the car is est. 9th april and they said that date is for internal use only and not delivery, more like build.....

Slightly miffed by this I asked when the car is likely to arrive and I was met with sometime end of April. My issue with this is I am due to go away for work then on holiday until the end of May.
I explained this to them and then agreed I would pick the car up from them on the 23rd May after my holiday.

Now on to my issue - they originally said that was fine, then they asked if I would sign and return the paperwork in April when the car arrives with them so they could process it in the April figures.
I received and email from them today saying the car will be with them in less than 14 days and can I arrange collection?!

    Issues I have:
1, I assume that when I sign the paperwork, I take responsibility for the car as it is now mine?
2, Any damage to the car during the period in their car will be on my insurance?
3, The car is Audi Financed, I assume as soon as I sign the paperwork, the clock starts ticking and I am paying for it?
4, if I collect the car it will be sat on my drive, not being used but costing me until the 20th May so this seems a little daft to collect before I go away doesn't it?
5, is it a bit weird them asking to sign the paperwork, I assume you have to check the car over and make sure there is nothing wrong first?

Can anyone else walk me through the process they have experienced when buy new, this is my first time so have no idea!

    Thanks all,
    Sam

My Wife had an issue of signing the paperwork on the Friday "because even though you aren't picking up until Monday, the Manager isn't there until then, oh no, don't worry, the finance doesn't start until you collect the car" - we later found out that was a load of BS when cancelling the finance agreement. It had started from the date it was signed.

So, my advice, tell them to hang onto the car and you'll pick it up when you agreed (after your trip), and you'll sign for it all then when you pick up? They'll be miffed. Of course. Tough.

Hi Sam, yeah this sounds quite common to be honest, I was originally given a date of mid Sept but actually picked it up at the end of June. I had said that if it arrived before the Sept registration would they hold on to it and they said yes, it then turned up and Boy did they want to get shot! It actually suited me but, and here's my point, if you had an agreement with the sales guy I suggest you go in, eyeball him and say "sorry but i told you I couldn't take it before the agreed date" Finance starts as soon as you take delivery (afaik), you don't actually get to check the car until you pick it up. I signed the documents 2 days before collection (in order for VWAF to process it) Seems silly to have it sitting around and you paying interest and insurance.

this is now corrected, the agreement starts as from signing.

    Cheers Wuffles,

Can you tell me how long you normally have from signing/collection to first payment?

yep, they maybe miffed but at the end of the day, they are still getting a sale, unless they start messing me about and I'll tell 'em to whistle!

No idea, she paid it off within the cooling off period (plus two days due to the signing early thing), but VWFS gracefully waived any payments required, then subsequently went about trying to destroy my Wife's credit history, but that's another story.

Whippers old chap, I hope you understood my sarcasm on the whole "if you don't like it, don't read it" thing from Mr Countdown last week. Tried PMing you, you've got it turned off.

I collected my car on the 21st March, few days after got a letter from Audi Finance to say that the first payment will be collected on the 20th of April. So basically after 1 month.

Thanks Mark, that's exactly what I suspected would happen after they ask me to sign the paperwork.

Thanks all for your quick guidance, much appreciated

Well after all that, I got a call 5 minutes ago, the car arrived in the UK yesterday and is being collected from the port tomorrow!

So much for collecting May 23rd after my holiday, the Ts&Cs state I should collect the car within 14 days of being notified it is ready for collection - that's bu**ered it up!
