    Hello everbody.
Has anybody got any ideas on what ohm values should be across which terminals on a crank angle sensor?I have just put a new one in and still no sparks from coil.Although if I put a supply onto the coil it certainly sparks then!
The old sensor was certainly shot, thought I was home and dry, never assume anything springs to mind!Any help would be appreciated, its already ruined a weekend It looks like its going to again.

Which model of car? Model Year? Which engine?

Im sure I can find it in Autodata for you if you can supply the above.

Just checked a few, the 150bhp PD engine (ARL) and the ANU variant is 450-550 ohms between terminals 1 and 2 (the furthest away from the round side of the plug)

Sorry folks I forgot the finer details as pointed out,to be quite honest this car is doing me in now I cant even think clearly any more!!
The details are VW 2.0 16v ABF engine. The new crank angle sensor from a well known supplier also had infinety across all pins if that helps.I would have thought there would be a coil winding at the tip of the sensor to produce the signal.I really want to get my facts right before taking it back as our particular branch always seem to have an issue with people taking things back.

    Regards
    Howard

I think your best bet would be to get the codes read, It should tell you if you got a short etc. If you changed the sensor then it could be wiring.

Resistance test for Crankshaft position sensor:

Pin 3 and earth = dead short (0 ohms)

    Voltage test

Between pin 1 and 3 on the Crankshaft Position Sensor multiplug (loom side) you should see a minimum of 9v DC with the sensor disconnected (dont forget to turn ignition on!)

PM me your email addy if you need the diagram showing which pin is which. (with the two lugs pointing down, the contacts are 1 2 3)
However I do agree, VAG-COM would be a much easier solution to your problem!
Fill in your profile so we know what part of the country you are from, im sure there is someone in your area who would be willing to plug your car in for the cost of a few beers

    Hope this helps

    Pete

    Rob and Pete
Thanks for your help so far.
I have just taken some readings and are as follows.Crank angle sensor supply plug between pins 1 and 3 9.64v also 9.64v between 2 and 3.
Coil supply plug with lugs down 12.34 between1 and 3,on plug on side of dist 11.37 between red and brown & white also 11.37 between blue(centre pin) and brown and white, any further suggestions please?
    Thanks Howard

By the way I read the fault codes before starting this job, they were,00513,00514 and no 1 knock sensor I assumed!!!!!the CAS would have led to the other two judging by its condition of the cable when I finally got it out.
