    I was just wondering something.

i specifically requested a red collared AMI cable when I bought my MY2013, a couple of weeks ago. This is the latest one and the one that would have been supplied new with the vehicle when registered in Nov 2012.

i have an original iPod classic from years ago, and not surprisingly it isn't recognised with the red collared cable.

My question is, does anyone know if the older blue collared cable would connect this iPod so that it is recognised through the MMI? Don't really want to spend £27 to find out it doesn't, so any help appreciated very much.

    Thank you.

I have the iPod Classic and was forced to use the Blue cable too. I was given the choice when collecting my car and since I have a 160GB iPod Classic and only a 16GB iPhone, I made the decision to go with the Blue.

The iPhone can always connect with Bluetooth was my reasoning.

My car was built September 2013......

Due to the sales guy messing me around with the cables I ended up with a blue, red and USB. Result!

Can I ask, how old your iPod Classic is? Mine is from 2004 and still works fine, therefore reluctant to bin it and would like to use it in the car.

    Many thanks for replies.

Mine is 2 years old, however you should be fine with older ones.

The system only changed with the iOS devices (iPhones and iPod Touch models) requiring the red cables. The only thing missing with the blue cable is the Album art is not shown on the MMI screen.

I have the blue cable and it works with both my 2007 iPod Classic as well as my iPhone 5 (and the adaptor), so the new iOS devices don't require the red collared cable. This cable also worked with an iPhone 4 that Swisscom lent me during a repair.

The only issue that I've found is with podcasts on the Classic. It plays one podcast and then doesn't allow me to play any more until I disconnect it.

As I mainly use the classic for podcasts I haven't really tried it with music. I suspect that this will all change anyway when I update to iTunes 11 and it screws up all my podcasts. I've held off for as long as possible but since I updated the iPhone and iPad to iOS7, I'll have to update it now

    Thank you for replies.

i now have a blue collared AMI cable and the 2004 iPod Classic works fine. As said above, no album art but not the end of the world.

Good to able to use this again in my car. Thanks again.

What you lose with the blue collar cable on an iOS device is the ability to play video files

Yes I've just been reading about this on another thread. The red lead also allows you to have album art cover flow. Since neither of these features interest me in the car I'll happily stick with the blue lead which works with all my devices.

Which cable should come with the car? I'm guessing the red one? I'm getting mine in about half an hour
