Hi, I have VCDS lite and a connector for my 96 polo and want to reset the airbag warning light. I'm a bit nervous about dabbling in the car's brain. Can I do any damage if I press the wrong button?

Can you access the airbag module? if so just search for codes and check them on Ross-Tech Wiki It's best to repair whatever the problem is before clearing the codes

Yep get a scan done and look on the RT website or post them up.

Or just go into Applications and erase all dtc's and it should go away but check codes first.

Thanks for your reply, I wonder if you could clarify please? By 'access the airbag module' I take it that you mean electronically through VCDS.

Do you mean Yep - I can cause damage so should get it scanned professionally or Yep - go ahead with no worries? Applications, I assume, is a feature of the VCDS package? what are 'dtc's' ? Sorry to be so ignorant. I'm pretty sure that the slipring is faulty but just want to try re-setting the faults first to see if it stays re-set.

You can't do any harm by scanning the car. When you connect VCDS you have to test it first to make sure its connecting. After that start the software and select the airbag module (little box on the screen) the software will scan and give you a list of fault codes. You can save them on your computer as a notepad file. As Chris says check them on Ross-Tech Wiki first or post them on here. Some airbag faults may need the fault rectified before you clear the codes. DTC's are Diagnostic Trouble Codes usually called fault codes
